# Swing 2.2 is here.
The biggest update to Swing since launch. Better sound, a smarter browser, and the kind of quality-of-life improvements that make you forget you're working inside a JSFX.

## Smoother sound, everywhere
Sample playback now uses cubic-spline interpolation. That means cleaner pitch-shifting, tighter transients, and noticeably less aliasing when you tune kicks or detune one-shots. If you're stacking pitched 808s or tuning toms by ear, you'll hear the difference immediately.
## A browser that actually helps
The Sample Browser got a ground-up overhaul:
- **Stereo waveform preview** — see your left and right channels separately before you load anything.
- **Spectral view** — toggle a frequency-domain overlay to spot sub content, noise, or tonal character at a glance.
- **Categories** — files are automatically tagged by drum type (kick, snare, hat, clap, etc.) based on filename. Filter by category in the sidebar to cut through large sample libraries fast.
- **Subfolders mode** — scan an entire folder tree and see every audio file in one flat list. No more drilling into nested folders.
- **Keyboard shortcuts** — 11 new shortcuts for navigating, previewing, and loading without touching the mouse. Press `?` to see them all.
- **Stereo/mono at a glance** — new channel count column in the file list.
## Your kits are safer
We've added three layers of protection against lost work:
- **Auto-sidecar saving** — Swing now keeps a backup copy of your active kit alongside your REAPER project. If anything goes wrong with the internal save data, it recovers automatically. You don't have to do anything.
- **Pre-overwrite backups** — every time you save over an existing kit, the previous version is kept as a .bak file.
- **Empty-save protection** — Swing won't let you accidentally overwrite a good kit with a blank one.
We also upgraded to a new kit format (v4) that properly round-trips velocity layers. Your old kits (any version) still load perfectly — Swing handles the conversion silently.
## Instant start
New Swing instances now auto-load the bundled 808 kit so you hear sound the moment you add it to a track. No more staring at an empty grid wondering what to do next.
## Stereo done right
Samples are now loaded in true stereo — left and right channels are preserved exactly as they are in the source file. Previously, stereo files were summed to mono on import. If you're working with stereo loops, room mics, or wide percussion, this changes everything.
There's also a new **L↔R channel swap** toggle on every pad. One click to flip your stereo image without re-editing the source.
## Multi-out improvements
- **Pad names sync to tracks** — rename a pad and the corresponding mixer track updates automatically.
- **Colors sync in real time** — change your color theme, intensity, or auto-color mode and your multi-out tracks update instantly.
- **Auto-switches to multi mode** — building output tracks now flips you to multi-out automatically. One less step.
## ADSR stays put
Dragging a new sample onto a pad no longer resets your carefully dialed-in envelope. Your attack, decay, sustain, and release settings are preserved — only the audio swaps out.
## Install via ReaPack
Swing 2 is now available through ReaPack for macOS and Linux users. Windows users can continue using the installer. The Install Guide has been updated with ReaPack setup instructions.
