ReaKit FX

Seven free effects that live right in your mixer strip: a VU meter with a gain knob, a high-pass and low-pass filter, saturation, a three-band EQ, a drum compressor, a de-esser and a stereo width knob. Pick a look on one and all seven follow.

The 16 track board in REAPER's mixer: all seven free effects on every channel and bus, on the EON theme

The 16 track board that comes with it. Every channel and bus has all seven: GainKit on top, then the Filter, De-Esser, Saturation, 3-Band EQ, DDC and Stereo Width. This is the EON look, the one they start on.

The seven

What's in the box.

GainKit, one meter

GainKit

A VU meter and one gain knob, to set your levels before anything else. One meter or two, twenty meter faces, low and high cuts, six look presets, a one-click mono switch, and your track's name on top.

Filter

Filter

A high-pass and a low-pass, to clear out rumble and tame the top. They sweep smoothly as you turn them or automate them, gentle or steep, with a curve you can drag.

Saturation

Saturation

One DRIVE knob and an on/off light. It warms and thickens the sound, rounding the peaks off softly instead of clipping them, and the knob turns smoothly with no crackle.

3-Band EQ

3-Band EQ

Low, mid and high, and an output level. With every knob at zero it sounds exactly like the original, and it's broad and forgiving, the way a console's tone controls are.

DDC

DDC

The Digital Drum Compressor. Punch and control for drums and anything that hits, with a mix knob for parallel compression, a way to duck one track under another, and a meter that shows how hard it's working.

De-Esser

De-Esser

Tames harsh S sounds in a voice. It turns down just the harsh part, only while it's there, with a switch to hear exactly what it's catching. The screen shows where it's working.

Stereo Width

Stereo Width

One knob, from mono to twice as wide. The middle of the mix stays where it is, and a meter under the knob shows how it will hold up in mono. At 100 % the sound passes through untouched.

In your mixer

Your mixer, turned into a console.

The meter, the filters, the drive, the EQ and the compressor, right in every channel's strip. Every knob works where it sits, and the whole mix is in front of you at once.

A 44-track session in REAPER's mixer on the Light theme: keys, drums, eight MPC inputs, six 808s, vinyl and the buses, every strip carrying the plugins, each track wearing its icon

A 44-track session on the Light theme, the MPC inputs and 808s included. Everything in the strips is the plugins themselves, working.

One strip, top to bottom

All seven fit in one strip and every part of them works there: turn the knobs, click the lights, read the meters.

  • Click any empty spot on a plugin and its full window opens. Click the strip again and it closes.
  • The meter is a fader. Turn on VU DRAG in GainKit's THEME menu and drag the meter to set the gain, scroll it, or double-click it for 0 dB.
  • Cut lows and highs on the spot. Turn on GainKit's cut bar and drag either end. With GainKit Plus, its arrow opens the long view with the curve, and the strip grows to fit.
  • Link across tracks. Click a plugin's badge to put it in one of sixteen link groups (six of the seven have them). Turn a knob and the whole group follows.
  • One look everywhere. Pick a theme or a knob style on any plugin and every strip follows.
  • Your track on top. With GainKit Plus, every meter wears its track's name and colour, and the master shows the project's name.
  • Nine ways to sit. GainKit shows the meter over the knob, the meter alone, the knob alone, and more.
  • SLOT. One button on the dock scrolls every strip on screen to the same effect slot.
  • Mixer or track panel. The EMBED row puts any of the seven in the track panel instead, with GainKit Plus running.
  • Sharp at any size. Drag a strip wider and everything grows with it. Nothing is a picture.
One mixer strip, every part named: the track's icon and name, GainKit's VU meter in the track's colour, the gain and MONO / STEREO, the low and high cut bar with its arrow, the Filter, the De-Esser, Saturation, a link badge, the 3-Band EQ, DDC and Stereo Width

SLOT
Why you should mess with it

A console channel in every strip.

Most plugins open in a window. These open right in the mixer. Drag a strip wider and they grow with it. Pick a look on one and all seven change. Link copies across tracks and they move together.

They live in the strip

Each one shows right in the mixer strip or the track panel and fits the space it gets. The EMBED row of the THEME menu picks where. Click an empty spot on it and the full window opens; click again and it closes.

They have themes

EON, Dark and Light, or NATIVE, where each keeps its own colours. 21 knob styles. Pick one on any plugin and all seven follow.

They link

Six of the seven have a gear at the top that puts them in one of sixteen link groups. Turn a knob on one and the rest of its group follows.

The meter can be the fader

Turn on VU DRAG in GainKit's THEME menu and the strip's meter sets the gain: drag it, scroll it, double-click for 0 dB. Type a name on the meter in the window and, with GainKit Plus running, it renames the track: the face, the strip and REAPER all show it.

Sharp at any size

No image files: every face is drawn live, so it stays sharp at any size and on any screen, big or small. The code is open for anyone to read.

They're free

All seven, on as many tracks and projects as you like. Updates come through ReaPack, free too.

Eight mixer strips and the master, each with GainKit showing two meters, left and right, in the track's colour

GainKit with METERS on TWO: a meter for each side, in every strip and on the master, here in the track's colour.

Up close

Everything else, a page each.

The plugins

All seven up close: every knob in plain words, and where to try each one first.

Themes

EON, Dark, Light and NATIVE, twenty-one knob styles, and the THEME menu.

GainKit Plus and the dock

Sixteen actions, the dock that follows your selection, SLOT, the icon picker and 104 track icons, and EON Floatter.

Get it

Free. A few minutes, via ReaPack.

  1. Put your email in the form below and confirm it from the email that arrives (check spam if it hides). We'll then send you the install guide with your ReaPack link.
  2. No Extensions menu in REAPER? Get ReaPack free at reapack.com. In REAPER, open Options → Show REAPER resource path, put the file in the UserPlugins folder there, and restart REAPER. If ReaPack shows a list of repositories the first time, just click OK.
  3. Extensions → ReaPack → Import repositories, paste your link, and click OK.
  4. Extensions → ReaPack → Browse packages. Type ReaKit, check that five packages show (ReaKit FX, GainKit Plus, EON Floatter, ReaKit FX templates, ReaKit FX track icons), click Select all, then Actions → Install/update selection. Then type js_ReaScriptAPI, click that one package and install it the same way. Then type ReaImGui and click only the one called "ReaImGui: ReaScript binding for Dear ImGui", and install it. Click Apply, then restart REAPER.
  5. Actions → Show action list. Type ReaKit FX - Start, pick it and click Run/close. It turns on GainKit Plus and EON Floatter for every launch and sets the seven to open in the mixer strip.
The window the start action shows: what it set up, and the Faster mixer strips switch
A small window shows what it set up. Leave Faster mixer strips on, click OK, then restart REAPER.
  6. Add a track, click its FX button, type EON and add JS: EON: GainKit. Close the effects window REAPER opens, then drag the top edge of the mixer up (View → Mixer if you don't see it), and GainKit is in the strip. The other six are in the same list.
  7. To change the look, open the plugin's window (click the track's FX button) and click THEME at the top.

Bought ReaKit FX before, as a download? Delete those old files from REAPER's Effects folder first, so nothing shows up twice.
